Before the Jet Age, the Douglas DC-3,4,6,and 7 were the world's leading air transports. In the Jet Age, the DC-8 lost out to the Boeing 707; Douglas was forced to merge with McDonnell; later sold to Boeing and the name "Douglas "disappeared from the industry where it had once been the leader.
